What is a .pdf?

There are interesting cultural differences between how Westerners approach potential investors and how Chinese approach the same. In this day and age, both often use e-mail for an initial approach. However, in China, .pdf files are not used. Would-be portfolio firms e-mail over Word (.doc) files galore with no thought to potential viruses that might be transmitted to investors. Furthermore, large, multi-megabyte PowerPoint (.ppt) files are sent clogging up investor e-mail inboxes.

Asking for executive summaries and .pdf files is met with blank stares and confusion by the masses of Chinese entrepreneurs looking for capital.
